George O’Brien is the club’s Cowboy of the Year for 2014-15.
George was a survivor of the San Francisco earthquake. He served his country in FOUR wars. He became a movie star in the John Ford’s classic “Iron Horse” and in the movie “Sunrise,” for which he received critical acclaim.
He acted in a Western series for Fox Studios in the 1930’s, then moved to RKO to appear in a well-recognized B-Western series. In the 40’s and 50’s, he became a well-known character actor, appearing in several John Wayne westerns. Not only did he have a great career in films, but he stayed busy with the military. His life could have BEEN a magnificent screenplay!
Our first feature will be “Racketeers Of The Range” (RKO, 1939) starring George O’Brien, Chill Wills, Marjorie Reynolds and Gay Seabrook. Directed by D. Ross Lederman.
Feature 2: “Under Colorado Skies” (Republic, 1947) starring Monte Hale, Adrian Booth, Paul Hurst and William Haade. Directed by R. G. Springsteen.
