The Old Time Western Film Club celebrates its 43rd year by hosting a Big Round-Up on March 23, 2013 at Charlie’s Barn. This is the first round-up for 2013 and should be a good one–just like Milo would want. The movies should begin around 10am, so come early and beat the rush.

Three great movies:

  • The Cyclone Kid (Republic, 1942) with Don “Red” Barry and Lynn Merrick
  • Silver City Kid (Republic, 1944) with Allan “Rocky” Lane and Peggy Stewart
  • West Of The Law (Monogram, 1942) with The Rough Riders, Buck Jones, Col. Tim McCoy and Raymond Hatten

The Rocky River Cowboys and others will provide the music. Food by Scurlock during the lunch break.

Charlie’s Barn is located 6 miles west of Pittsboro on Highway 64 (right on Buckner-Clark Road)

Our first feature for the March meeting stars Allan “Rocky” Lane. In later years, after a full career as a star in B-Westerns, he was able to make a living by lending his voice to the most famous talking horse on TV, “Mr. Ed.”

Republic Pictures released “Oklahoma Badlands” in 1948. The film stars Lane, Eddy Waller, Mildred Coles and Roy Barcroft. Another interesting factoid about this movie: Yakima Canutt directed it.

Get ready to continue your visit to the city below the earth as we view chapters 8 and 9 of the Mascot serial, “The Phantom Empire” starring Gene Autry.

We’ll finish the evening with “Border Law,” released by Columbia in 1931 and starring Buck Jones, Lupita Tovar, James Mason, Frank Rice and Don Chapman. “Border Law” was directed by Louis King.
