This month Charles Starrett gallops on the big screen in “The Cowboy Star” with his favorite co-star, Iris Meredith.

We’ll follow the Charles Starrett flick with John Ford’s “Wagon Master” starring Ben Johnson, Harry Carey Jr., and Joanne Dru. This film is considered by some to be John Ford’s masterpiece film and amazingly does not star John Wayne! Be at the meeting Thursday, June 15 at 7:00 p.m. to hear why this film was shot in black and white and why it was selected as a preservation film by the Library of Congress.

This is the last call for the 40th and FINAL Western Film Fair & Nostalgia Convention in Winston-Salem NC. You can see details here. ALSO in July, Victoria VA will be hosting the National Day of the Cowboy. You can see details for that festival here.

Remember, this is our last meeting for the current 2016-17 year. See you again in September.

Feature 1: The Cowboy Star (Columbia, 1936) starring Charles Starrett, Iris Meredith, Si Jenks and Marc Lawrence. Directed by David Selman.

Feature 2: Wagon Master (Argosy/RKO, 1950) starring Ben Johnson, Harry Carey, Jr., Joanne Dru and Ward Bond. Directed by John Ford.

Chapter 11 of the Serial: “The Valley of Vanishing Men” (Columbia, 1942) Starring Bill Elliott, Slim Summerville, Carmen Morales and Kenneth MacDonald. Directed by Spencer G. Bennet
