It’s May! And it’s John Wayne‘s birthday month.

I’ve heard that Captain Nathan Brittles was one of the Duke’s favorite roles. Enjoy this clip from YouTube:

Feature 1 this month is an “A” Western: “She Wore A Yellow Ribbon” (Argosy/RKO, 1949) Starring John Wayne, Joanne Dru, John Agar, Ben Johnson and Harry Carey, Jr. Directed by the legendary John Ford.

Feature 2: “Cheyenne Roundup” (Universal, 1943) Starring Johnny Mack Brown, Fuzzy Knight, Tex Riter, Jennifer Holt and the Jimmy Wakely Trio. Directed by Ray Taylor.

Chapter 10 of the Serial: “The Valley of Vanishing Men” (Columbia, 1942) Starring Bill Elliott, Slim Summerville, Carmen Morales and Kenneth MacDonald. Directed by Spencer G. Bennet

Johnny Mack Brown was a football star at the University of Alabama and helped win the 1926 Rose Bowl. He then became a movie star beginning his career in “A” movies. Later he became a popular Cowboy star. One of his cowboy films will be our first feature at the March meeting.

We’ll round out the evening with Chapters 10 & 11 of the serial “Dick Tracy vs Crime Inc.” (Republic, 1941) Starring Ralph Byrd, The Ghost, Michael Owen and Jan Wiley. Directed by William Witney and John English.
